Overview
Product sourcing insights & recommendations
The Cisco Catalyst 2960 series has fully transitioned into the "Legacy" phase of its lifecycle, with the original series reaching End-of-Support in 2019 CiscoCisco. The more recent 2960-X series is currently approaching its final security support milestone in October 2025, with all support officially ending in 2027 Router-Switch.
Market Trends & Lifecycle Insights
* Sunset of Classic Access: The market has shifted from fixed-configuration Layer 2 switches to software-defined access. The 2960 series, while still popular in secondary markets and homelabs Reddit, is considered a high-risk asset for production environments due to the lack of security patches CiscoChamptechnology.
* Inventory Shift: B2B listings now primarily feature refurbished or surplus 2960 stock, with prices for 24-port models typically ranging from $124–$311 .
* Enterprise Upgrade Path: Most organizations are migrating to the Catalyst 9200 Series, which offers double the stacking bandwidth (160 Gbps) and modular uplinks Cisco.
Replacement Strategy

| Budget/Standard | Catalyst 1000 Series | Fixed configuration, managed via UI/CLI, no subscription required Cisco. |
