Prices for RAM and storage have risen significantly over the past several months, so we are forced to raise prices across our tiers to compensate or risk performance degradation. It’s pretty impossible these days to create a competent 1080p gaming machine for our typical $500 entry point. Every build inconsistently lists components, sometimes giving specifics, sometimes being general, and other times skipping over components altogether. The $1500 build says "We’ve stuck with the same RAM ... from our $1000 build" yet the $1,000 build doesn't list any RAM. A 500 GB SSD drive is listed as 1 TB. What's the point of suggestions with imaginary GPU prices that don't exist? None of the builds even meet their price points anymore (if they ever did), even with their fictitiously low GPU prices. The only exception is the $500 machine. It at least fits with its fictional pricing.

If you want a dedicated gpu then you could technically build something like this, which is a full $150 over budget so I recommend getting many of these parts used so that the build can be under $500. You can build an OK 1080p pc for under 650 but under 500 is nearly impossible atm. The article i linked is a 550 pc but that was written before ram prices jumped, and you're unlikely to get the same prices on some components.

Find a decent set of stuff on sale get a base build for 300-500, then just build it back up to 3-4 again, and drop all that on a nice GPU. ... Posted by u/TractionC - 60 votes and 102 comments I agree with u/X_SkillCraft20_X, but it's really hard to find a decent and well-kept hardware coming from gaming PCs. u/Technical_Moose8478 u/Matt6453 in business environment case is a bit different because those PCs runs 8/5 usually on minimal load, often are OEM workstations build to last and well maintained by IT stuff.
