797 Audio Microphone Capsule
Overview
Product sourcing insights & recommendations
The 797 Audio microphone capsule is highly regarded in the professional and DIY audio communities, particularly for its CY002 (K67/K87 type) and CY039 (C12 type) models. As products of Beijing 797 Audio Co., Ltd., a manufacturer active since 1953, these capsules are considered the "gold standard" for affordable, high-quality microphone upgrades and boutique builds.
📈 Market Trends & Insights
* OEM Pedigree: 797 Audio is a premier OEM for renowned brands like Bock Audio and ADK, and famously produced the original Røde NT1 and NT2 capsules RecordinghacksFacebook.
* DIY Resurgence: There is growing demand for these capsules in the DIY community for building "clones" of classic German microphones (U87/U67 styles). They are viewed as a significant tier above generic "no-name" Chinese capsules GroupdiyProsoundweb.
* Accessibility Shift: While historically difficult to source individually, they are increasingly available through official factory stores on platforms like Alibaba and AliExpress, though stock remains limited AlibabaAlibaba.
🛠️ Technical Performance
* Signature Sound: The CY002 (34mm, 6-micron gold-sputtered Mylar) is known for its detailed top-end. While it can be "bright" in simple circuits, it performs exceptionally well in circuits with high-frequency de-emphasis HomerecordingGroupdiy.
