Major cloud providers are consuming vast quantities of Flash NAND and DRAM wafers for their servers, leading to a significant shortage in supply for other uses, including consumer SSDs and even HDDs indirectly, since data centers require large amounts of storage and some HDDs also use DRAM cache. NAND prices have already doubled or more in many cases since late 2025, and most production capacity for 2026 is already fully booked. I bought a Seagate 12TB HDD for $120, Samsung 970 EVO 1TB SSD for $52 in 2023 and a Crucial 8TB SSD in mid-2025 for $140. I'm planning to buy more storage, but prices have gone up. Should I wait until 2027 or 2028, Is there's possibility that the prices will go down within that year or should I just buy whatever is available now?
