The ASUS TX201L (also known as the ASUS Transformer Book Trio) is a rare legacy "3-in-1" hybrid device that uniquely combined a Windows laptop, a standalone Android tablet, and a desktop PC in one hardware package. Notebookcheck Pcmag

Product Architecture & Specifications

The TX201L's defining characteristic was its dual hardware system, allowing it to run two independent operating systems simultaneously:

* PC Station (Keyboard Dock): Contained an Intel Core i5/i7 processor, 4GB RAM, and a 500GB HDD running Windows 8. Notebookcheck Expertreviews

* Tablet (Screen): Housed an Intel Atom Z2560 processor, 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Phonearena Gadgetguy

* Dual Mode Functionality: A dedicated "Trio" key enabled switching between Windows and Android in under a second when docked. The dock could also be connected to an external monitor to act as a desktop PC while the screen was used independently as a tablet. Notebookcheck Pcmag

Market Trends & Current Status (2026)

The market for the ASUS TX201L has shifted significantly since its 2013-2014 launch:

* Legacy & Niche Status: The device is now considered a legacy product. While it was groundbreaking for its dual-OS flexibility, the market moved toward more streamlined solutions like Microsoft's Surface line or virtualization (e.g., Running Android apps natively in Windows 11). * Secondary Market: Current availability is primarily restricted to the refurbished or used market (e.g., eBay, specialized spare parts retailers). It is often sought after by collectors or tech enthusiasts for its unique engineering rather than daily productivity. Accessoires-Asus Rescuemissionga

* Modern Alternatives: Users looking for a similar experience in 2026 typically turn to high-performance 2-in-1s like the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 or the Microsoft Surface Pro series, which offer superior performance and battery life without the complexity of dual CPUs. Chronicreload Dongknows

User Sentiment & Feedback

* Pros: Highly praised for its premium aluminum build, excellent Full HD IPS display, and the extreme versatility of owning three devices in one. Notebookcheck Expertreviews

* Cons: Early reviews criticized the slow 5400rpm HDD in the dock, the combined weight of 1.7kg, and the relatively short battery life of the standalone tablet. Expertreviews Techspot
