How to Source BIS-Certified Laptops for India (2026)

The Indian laptop market is undergoing a significant regulatory transition, with BIS certification becoming even more critical for market entry in 2026. I have summarized the key trends, compliance requirements, and sourcing options in the attached files.

Key Insights & Trends

Standard Shift: The industry is moving from the older IS 13252 standard to the hazard-based IS/IEC 62368-1:2023 safety regulation Hqts. While full mandatory compliance for all products is phased toward 2028, 2026 marks a crucial adoption phase for new product launches Hqts.
Market Access: A valid BIS registration is mandatory for all laptop imports under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) Seyecs. Without this, shipments face immediate detention at Indian customs Ghost.
Certification Process: Obtaining certification requires testing at BIS-recognized labs in India and typically takes 30–90 days Psrcompliance. Foreign manufacturers must appoint an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) to manage the liaison Psrcompliance.

Sourcing & Compliance

I have identified several manufacturers (such as Shenzhen Great Asia Electronic and Di Xiang Industrial) that provide OEM/ODM services for the India market. Wholesale prices for business-series laptops from these suppliers typically range between $119 and $209 per unit .
