PS/2 Cable and Adapter Buyer's Guide

The market for PS/2 cables and adapters has transitioned from a general utility category to a high-value niche serving industrial maintenance, retro-gaming, and vintage mechanical keyboard enthusiasts. While native support for PS/2 ports has largely disappeared from modern motherboards, the demand for Active Converters remains strong, with the global adapter market expected to reach $53.39 billion by 2026.

Key findings include:

Trend Dynamics: Sustained interest is driven by a resurgence in retro-computing and the need for industrial-grade legacy support in CNC and medical equipment.
Product Criticality: "Active" converters with internal chipsets are essential for compatibility, as "Passive" pin-adapters now face high failure rates on modern systems.
Industrial Sourcing: Shielded cables with locking nuts are the gold standard for high-reliability environments, typically sourced from manufacturers in Dongguan and Shenzhen.
Performance Gaming: Low-latency adapters (<10ms) are a major demand driver for PS2 controller-to-PC gaming, often requiring specialized HID drivers for full feature support.
