Cisco 4000 ISR Migration Guide (EoS 2023, Support Until 2028)

The 'Cisco 4000' phrase primarily refers to the ISR 4000 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR4200, 4300, and 4400), which were the industry standard for branch office networking for over a decade. As of 2026, the market is in a critical transition phase following Cisco's official End-of-Sale (EoS) announcement in late 2023 Cisco Zpesystems.

Product Lifecycle & Market Trends

* End-of-Sale Status: The ISR 4200, 4300, and most 4400 models reached End-of-Sale on November 7, 2023 Cisco.

* Support Timeline: While hardware sales have stopped, security support and vulnerability fixes will continue until November 2028, allowing businesses to maintain existing fleets through Third-Party Maintenance (TPM) if they choose to delay upgrades Cisco Curvature.

* The Catalyst Shift: Market demand has pivoted sharply toward the Catalyst 8000 Edge Platforms. These replacements offer up to 4x higher SD-WAN performance, native 5G support, and enhanced multi-cloud security (SASE) integration compared to the ISR 4000 series Cisco Zpesystems.
