Cisco Router 2800
Overview
Product sourcing insights & recommendations
The Cisco 2800 Series Integrated Services Routers (ISR), including models 2801, 2811, 2821, and 2851, were once the backbone of enterprise branch networking but are now retired, legacy products.
Product Lifecycle & Technical Status
The series has officially transitioned to End-of-Life (EoL) and End-of-Support (EoS) status Cisco.
- End-of-Sale: November 1, 2011.
- End-of-Support: October 31, 2016.
- Technical Overview: These routers are modular platforms supporting integrated data, security, and voice. Key differences between models include the 2821 and 2851 featuring Gigabit Ethernet ports, while the 2801 and 2811 use Fast Ethernet (10/100) Cisco.
Market Trends & Insights (2024–2026)
The market for the Cisco 2800 series has shifted almost entirely to the secondary (refurbished/used) market.
- Pricing: Current B2B listings for refurbished units range from $80 to $300 depending on the specific model and security bundles AlibabaAlibaba.
- Demand Drivers: While no longer suitable for modern high-speed corporate edges, they remain highly popular for:
- Educational Labs: A "gold standard" for CCNA/CCNP certification practice due to low cost and full IOS feature sets Reddit.
- Legacy Connectivity: Used in industrial settings needing serial connectivity or as voice gateways for legacy PBX systems via T1/E1 cards.
- Market Availability: High supply remains in the secondary market due to large-scale enterprise decommissioning, though they are being gradually replaced by the 2900 (ISR G2) and 4000 series in more advanced home labs.
I have compiled a list of currently available refurbished 2800 series units from B2B suppliers, including pricing and model-specific rationale.
I have identified current listings for the 2800 series. You can continue with:
