Core i7-5557U Buying Guide for Refurbished Mini PCs & Workstations

The Intel Core i7-5557U remains a relevant choice for specialized, budget-conscious applications in 2026, despite being over a decade old. Its 28W TDP and Intel Iris 6100 graphics provide a performance edge over standard low-power chips of its era, making it a favorite for Linux workstations, Home Assistant servers, and light productivity.

Currently, the market for this processor is dominated by refurbished 13-inch MacBook Pros (Early 2015) and Intel NUC 5i7RYH mini PCs, typically priced between $80 and $150 USD. While it lacks native Windows 11 support, its mature driver ecosystem ensures stability for dedicated legacy or open-source projects. For primary business use, transitioning to 8th Gen hardware is advised to secure better longevity and modern OS compatibility.
