I have a Nikon D5100 and SB700 flash; I've been practicing with the flash and it really opens up a lot of options. But usually I'm behind the camera. If I want to get in front of the camera, I think I'll need some sort of remote shutter control, because the 2 and 10 second timer might not be flexible enough. Alternatively, it seems that remote flash triggers trigger a remote flash when the shutter button is pressed, but doesn't control the shutter release remotely.. Can anyone suggest how this problem is addressed? Surely I'm not the first one to want a remote wireless shutter release AND to use a flash. I can't seem to find a solution, perhaps I don't know how to look for one. Thanks for the help. ... I use one of the cheap $10 wireless remotes for my D5100. Just FYI, I have a Samsung Galaxy S5, and I use and app with its IR port which allows me to control the shutter with the phone. It is called "DSLR Remote" and it should work with pretty much any phone with an IR port. It is very flexible (tons of options for length of delay and number of shots) and even claims to be able to work in Bulb mode. Not sure if any of this helps. Good Luck!
