John Apps at the Ramstore.ca was nice enough to send a sample of OCZ’s PC2700, rev 3.2 (512 M). OCZ claims “Now running up to CAS 2 2-5-2 1T OCZ PC-2700 Rev 3.2.” · After I did the testing, I carefully removed the aluminum heatspreader to see what’s underneath: These are Winbond W942508BH-6 chips. Winbond states “The -6 is compliant to the 166 MHz/CL2.5 specification.” Anything more aggressive runs the chip out of spec. I tested the OCZ PC2700 using an ABIT BD7II RAID motherboard (250 FSB max) with an P4 1700, running at an 8x multiplier (this is an Intel Engineering Sample); this avoids any issues due to the CPU running out of spec. PCI settings were fixed at 33 MHz. OCZ’s PC2700 rev 3.2 runs a little better than their spec with aggressive memory timings (consistent with OCZ’s claim) and about 14.5% better at more conservative timings. You're getting confused the Mhz and bandwidth. DDR333 Ram has a bandwidth of 2.7 Gigabites / second. DDR400 has a bandwidth of 3.2Gbps. You want another stick of DDR333, which is also referred to as PC2700. Anyway, adding RAM won't help you as much as upgrading your graphics card when it comes to gaming. PC2700 IS DDR333, and runs at 166MHz. Every DDRxxx time(x) 8, equal PCxxxx. example: ddr333, time 8 = PC2700 ddr400, time 8 = PC3200 ddr500, time 8 = PC4000 Whatever format it listed, just Divide or Multiple by 8, then you'll get your answer.

Could someone tell me the difference between PC2700 & PC3200 DDR memory, my mother board takes both, but I do n't think it can take them both at the same time? I'm going to buy more memory, but I have PC2700 at present, and was wondering if it was worth scraping that and going for PC3200 or just getting another stick of PC2700? When buying new DDR Memory: - ALWAYS get a named brand (e.g. Kingston, Corsair, Cruical or OCX) - ALWAYS get DDR3200 RAM. The difference in price is less than £5 between DDR2100 and DDR3200, and even if your board can't take the faster RAM, it will just run it at lower speeds. Getting DDR3200 RAM ensures upgradability. - NEVER get two memory modules from different companies running alongside each other - and never run two memory modules together than have different specs (e.g. PC2700 = DDR 333 = 333MHz PC3200 = DDR 400 = 400MHz If both types are installed, the slowest speed will be used. You should go with the speed that matches your CPU's FSB (Frontside Bus). For example, if you had an Athlon XP 2800+ Barton w/ 333MHz FSB, then you would want to stay with PC2700.

I like to play online computer games like Battlefield 2, but have been locking up due to system instability and I need more ram. right now, I only have (1) 512mb stick of Corsair PC2700 (DDR333) in my computer. My motherboard also supports PC3200 (DDR400) Should I match the ram I have now with another 512mb stick of Corsair PC2700 (DDR333) or should I switch to 1GB of PC3200 (DDR400)? Would a Pentium 4 of the same ghz, but with 800(fsb) make a huge difference for gaming? The RAM issue may be locking up your PC, but probably NOT locking up the Video Card specifically. Is there adequate cooling on your Video Chip? That may be the culprit. Have you tried turning down the graphics from MAX everything to something a little more reasonable?

Bought a new computer for my mother (Compaq Presario SR1503WM) runing an Intel Celeron D with 256MB RAM and XP Home. At the store I was told that it had 256 of PC2700 installed. I was able to get another stick of 256MB PC2700. Problem ocurred when I checked out the system and found out that in reality it had 256MB of PC3200. If I understand correctly, your machine has a pc3200? If so, it should be able to support PC2700. Where you may be running into problems is in the CMOS, you need to check the (I hope I get the terms correct) the voltage or multiplier/CLS. I think they are either 2.5 or something like that. Once you set it to the appropriate setting, the PC3200 should lower itself to work on the same level as the pc2700 and you should be good to go working with 512mb of RAM. If you need further details, let me know and I will actually go into the CMOS setting to get you what I am actually talking about. The pc3200 will run as pc2700 as already said but the timings, as the above poster was referring to, might be different and it's a good idea to make sure they run matched by manually setting the timings to the lowest common denominator. So ideally, what i would do, is check the factory SPD(serial presence detect) timings on each module and set them manually to the slower modules timings.
