The FortiAP 221C has officially reached the end of its commercial and operational lifecycle, transitioning from a core enterprise asset to a legacy device primarily found in the secondary market.

Product Lifecycle & Support Status

The FortiAP 221C is no longer supported by Fortinet. Key milestones include:

* End-of-Sale (EOS): October 14, 2018 Layer23-Switch

* End-of-Support (EOSL): October 14, 2023 Layer23-Switch

* Current Status: The device no longer receives security updates, hardware replacements, or technical assistance Fortinet. Continued use in production environments poses significant security and compliance risks.

Market Trends & Pricing

* Secondary Market: As a discontinued model, the 221C is mainly available as refurbished or "New Open Box" stock. However, demand is rapidly declining as enterprises migrate to Wi-Fi 6 standards.

* Strategic Upgrade Path: The market has shifted toward Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Wi-Fi 6E models. The FortiAP 231F is the industry-standard successor, offering tri-radio capabilities and significantly higher throughput than the 221C's 802.11ac Wave 1 technology Stacklinkus.

* Wholesale Pricing for Successors: Current wholesale pricing for the FortiAP 231F ranges from $80 to $300 per unit, depending on order volume and supplier region (primarily China and India) Alibaba Alibaba.

Business Recommendations

1Immediate Replacement: Organizations still utilizing 221C units should prioritize replacement to avoid "blackout" periods where hardware failure cannot be remediated via official support channels.
2Focus on 231F for Value: For most standard branch/office deployments, the FortiAP 231F provides the best balance of cost and longevity in 2026.
3Future-Proofing with 231G: For high-density environments or those requiring 6GHz bands, consider the FortiAP 231G to ensure compatibility with modern client devices Stacklinkus.
