Smooth Tongue French Link Snaffle – Ainsley Saddlery

ainsleysaddlery.com

A French link snaffle is a type of mouthpiece featuring a double-jointed design, with an oval shaped centre piece that lies across the horse’s tongue. The French link mouthpiece distributes pressure more evenly across the horse’s tongue. The centre link allows for independent movement of each side of the bit, facilitat The centre link allows for independent movement of each side of the bit, facilitating clearer and more nuanced communication between horse and rider. By lying flat on the tongue, the French link reduces pressure points and encourages the horse to be more responsive and comfortable, aiding in the development of a soft and supple mouth. The weighted mouthpiece minimises pressure on the cheeks while aiding in clear communication with your horse. The design also reduces the risk of cuts and chafing, and prevents the mouth from drying out by maintaining better lip contact. Furthermore, this bit is designed with ergonomic connections that do not create ‘hotspots’ from narrow metal pressure points. Salivation is important as it results in a more relaxed jaw and a softer mouth, promoting bit acceptance and the ability to respond to the rider's commands without tension. When the horse is relaxed, it is more focused on the rider's signals, facilitating better communication.

This multi jointed French Link Snaffle offers more mobility within the mouthpiece, which means horses that tend to lean on a normal snaffle may get lighter off the French Link. Horses with low pallets that resist pressure from ported bits may do well in this bit as well because the link lays flat on the tongue. • Nice bit for... ... The KK Ultra is ergonomically designed by the Veterinary research team at University of Hanover and takes advantage of the exceptional sensitivity of the horse’s tongue. Through extensive research, the center lozenge has been shortened and the angle of the link is turned 45° to ensure the link rest fully on the tongue without pinching. The KK Ultra mouthpiece is... French link snaffle bits are one of the most popular bits when it comes to English riders. French link bits are double-jointed snaffle bits with a short, flat link at the center. This piece is made to lay flat on the horse’s tongue and allow the entire mouthpiece to form a bit better to the natural shape where a bit lays in a horse’s mouth and applies pressure to the tongue. This design allows the bit to stay flexible in the horse’s mouth, which can be more comfortable to the horse. The French link bit is different from a regular single-jointed snaffle bit as the French Link is double-jointed with a metal “link” at the very center and most plain snaffle bits are single-jointed with a nutcracker effect when the reins are pulled.

Hunter Dee French Link Bit – Equine Outfitters LLC

The three-piece French Link mouthpiece prevents the “nutcracker” action of single-jointed mouthpieces, and instead applies tongue pressure directly across the tongue, bars and lips when reins are engaged. To ensure our clients’ safety against such communicable diseases as EHV 1, Equine Outfitters LLC does not accept returns or exchanges on bits, bit accessories & hackamores. Our policy is based on the AAEP suggested biosecurity guidelines. Sometimes called a “dog-bone”, the French link is one of our most popular selling bits. The French link mouth is available in a wide variety of other cheek styles: baucher, eggbutt, loose ring and 2-ring gag.

What is a French link loose ring snaffle? – Online For Equine

www.onlineforequine.co.uk

When using a French link bit the horse shouldn’t experience any upper palate interference or pinching to the lips which is associated with the nutcracker action of a single joint. The French link itself sits on the centre of the tongue whilst the two bars attach to either end of the link allowing it to follow the contours of the horse’s mouth. The loose rings of this bit allow the mouthpiece to move freely within the horse’s mouth, which then ensures the mouthpiece can sit comfortably over its tongue. The loose ring is particularly favourable when combined with the French link as it allows the horse to develop a nice, consistent feel in the mouth without feeling “fixed”, teaching the horse to relax its lower jaw thus reducing tension. How to fit a French link loose ring snaffleWhen fitting a French link snaffle, we recommend that the bit rings sit clear of the horse’s lips – as they move freely, there is a greater chance of them pinching. We often refer to the hole in the mouthpiece as the bit ring groove (the ring runs through this hole) and we suggest the lip is clear of this groove to minimize the chance of any interference. The French link loose ring snaffle should not be confused with the similar looking Dr Bristol – the Dr Bristol also features a central link but this link is set at an angle for a more severe action unlike the French link which should sit flat.

What does a french link actually do? *unexpectedly long* | Horse ...

He is being ridden in a 3-ring dutch gag on the 2nd ring atm as he is being brought back into work and therefore could be strong at times. I am not intending to keep him in it, and he has shown no sign of needing it so far, but I follow what I heard Tim Stockdale say - He would rather have a horse in a stronger bit and use less pressure, than have a horse in a weaker bit and have to use more pressure and constantly harden the horses mouth. His loose ring snaffle has a french link but his 3-ring dutch gag doesn't so I am wondering whether to get his new bit with or without one. Its an extra joint...if you bend a single jointed snaffle you can see it makes a 'V' which can point into the roof of the mouth...I dont like single jointed bits, especially in combination with a flash strap. If the bit has a extra joint - such as a french link or a lozenge it wont stab the roof of the mouth. It can also make it harder for the horse to 'lean' onto the bit, especially if it is a loose ring. Little Cob likes the French link hanging cheek; he tends to get hold of and lean on others. ... I too have the Jeffries revolver bit for my mare - it's a hanging cheek. I'm not sure how big they go up to though. Looking on the website where I got mine the biggest they have is 5.75" in loose ring or hanging cheek. When I had a ClydeX with a fat tongue and fleshy lips, I really struggled to find a bit to fit her. I ended up buying a PeeWee bit which is supposed to fit up to 7" and even that was touch & go.
