Well, I think it’s now safe to say that the days of elegant magnetically clasped, dark foam padded boxes from the original three Fujifilm lenses are over. The usual array of hood and oversized pouch is still included, however the hood quality seems to be slipping. Fuji vs. Fuji is site dedicated to comparing and contrasting Fujifilm X Series mirrorless cameras, FUJINON and X Mount compatible lenses, and related accessories. The 35mm has an avid following, myself included, and rightly so. It’s compact, light and it produces very sharp images with a beautiful rendering. So why did Fuji release the 33mm f1.4 and what’s the difference? Which should you buy in 2025? If you have the 35mm should you upgrade? The f2 is arguably a better choice because it’s newer, smaller, weather resistant and has better autofocus, but I’d read so many good things about the f1.4 that I was willing to sacrifice a few things to try it out. It would be nice if it was weather sealed though, just for my own reassurance. Again, this is not a deal breaker for me, but if you’re someone who really wants something more resistant to the elements then you should definitely consider the 35mm f2 or the 33mm f1.4. Of course, if you need weather resistance you can discount the 35mm f1.4, but that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with the 33mm f1.4. Fujifilm also offer a 35mm f2 lens. I don’t have one of these, but I do have the 23mm version and it’s an excellent lens so I’m sure the 35mm f2 is as well.

Posted by u/Kibbaaa - 20 votes and 35 comments I know the Fuji community raves about the 35mm f1.4, and it is a solid lens, but I really think the f2 is the better buy for most people. WR can be invaluable in some situations, and the faster, more reliable AF of the f2 will be better for a general/walk around lens. In the end, if you want to spend the extra amount for the f1.4 then go for it. You won’t be disappointed (unless you find out you really miss WR). Just know that some of the talk of the “magic” of the f1.4 is no different as the “Leica look” that you hear the Leica fanboys spew out. But I am having trouble incorporating the 50 into my photography. The image quality, af, and size are great, truly no complaints or misgivings — but I feel like my “approach” is wrong; I haven’t figured out how to use it happily as a grab and go walkaround lens.

But let’s compare it to the main alternative, the Fujifilm 35mm f2 lens and see when which is a better fit. This is probably one of the biggest questions you’ll have to grapple with. The main distinction here comes down to aperture and weather sealing. Both lenses produce beautiful images, but the 35mm f1.4 will be sharper out of camera. While in the same price range, the f/2 version is overall cheaper. The main difference between the 35mm f/2 WR and the XC version is that the later is not weather sealed and it’s made out of plastic rather than metal. Fujifilm 35mm f1.4 vs. Fujifilm 35mm f2 Combined with Fuji’s sensors you can’t really go wrong. The Fuji 35mm f1.4 is certainly not the cheapest lens you can buy, but for a flagship lens the price point tends to be pretty affordable. Compared to Fuji’s other first generation prime lenses, the 16mm f1.4 and the 23mm f1.4, the 35mm is by far the most affordable at almost half the price. That said, there are two cheaper alternatives we’ll look at later: the 35mm XF f2 WR and the 35mm XC f2.
