The Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M, originally released as a premium Mac-dedicated document scanner, is currently in a "legacy transition" phase. While officially discontinued, it remains a highly regarded piece of hardware due to its durability, though its market position is now defined by software workarounds and the secondary used market.

Product & Support Lifecycle

* Official Support Status: Fujitsu (now Ricoh) officially terminated distribution and support for the original ScanSnap Manager software on November 7, 2024 Max. The model is now categorized as a discontinued legacy product.

* Software Transition: Fujitsu recommends moving to ScanSnap Home, but this software does not natively support the S1500M Max. It typically only works if the old ScanSnap Manager is still installed in the background to handle driver communication.

Market Trends & Compatibility Insights (2026)

* Survival through Workarounds: The primary trend for S1500M owners is the move toward third-party or legacy software to maintain hardware utility. ScanSnap Manager V7 (the 64-bit version) remains the most popular way to keep the device running on modern systems Fppad Max.

* macOS Sequoia & Sonoma Compatibility: Despite being "unsupported," the S1500M is confirmed to be functional on macOS 15 Sequoia and macOS 14 Sonoma using the V7.2 L70 driver version Max. It runs via Rosetta 2 on Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) Macs Max.

* Third-Party Resilience: A significant portion of the market has shifted to independent drivers like VueScan or ExactScan Hamrick Max. ExactScan is particularly noted for its ability to support the physical hardware scan button, which standard drivers often lose Max.

Secondary Market Insights

* Resale Value: The S1500M no longer appears in primary B2B wholesale channels. However, its successor, the refurbished ScanSnap iX500, is currently trading between $120 and $145 . The S1500M typically holds a lower residual value (estimated $40–$80) due to its aging CIS sensor compared to newer CMOS models.

* User Sentiment: The market for this specific model is driven by "long-haul" users who value its 20ppm speed and robust paper handling, often choosing to use DIY OCR workarounds like OwlOCR or OCRmyPDF rather than upgrading to newer $400+ hardware Max.
