Why did I add the Godox MF12 Mini Macro Flash to my gear for Macro Photography? Well, there are only a handful dedicated true Macro flashes on the market. It is mostly either the twin flash, a ring flash or the classic on/off camera speedlite with additional diffuser. Hallo Maike, die kompaktere und flexiblere Lösung wäre der Aufsteckblitz (den du ja auch schon hast, also auch günstiger) mit einem Diffuser (zB Cygnustech, AK oder TrickBits) – das Godox MF12 System macht eher Sinn, wenn man mit mehreren Einheiten aus versch. Auch musst du die MF12 über einen Triggerblitz (z.B. Godox Aufsteckblitz), oder via Funkauslöser auslösen, der Aufsteckblitz steckt einfach auf der Kamera und schießt bei jeder Auslösung mit, was deutlich intuitiver ist. Für Frösche haben sich die Diffuser eigentlich alle bewährt, da gibt es zahllose Beispiele und du machst mit keinem der drei etwas falsch. Hallo Chris! Vielen Dank für diesen informativen Artikel! The MF12 was the first set I ordered when I got into it and... It was disappointing. Don't get me wrong, great product, does what it advertises but it's pretty complex to use and with all the lighting coming from the front, images often look flat. For less money you could get a godox speed light, like the V1C or really any of their other mid to high level ones and a flash diffuser hood (like AK diffuser or the knockoff hi-en macro). I love the MF12s but you need good reflective diffusers for them and to mount them on articulating arms. At full power they're plenty powerful enough, unless you like trading single shot DoF for diffraction limited softness.. not powerful for that type of shooting but imo that only makes sense if you're shooting moving bugs or something. I like the macroscopic turtle dove diffusers ... Just me, but a TT685 II-C ($130) would give you the same amount of light a V860 III-C ($230) or V1-C ($260) or V1 Mid-C ($180) would. And a V480-C ($170) would be smaller and almost as full-featured. If you want something more powerful than an MF12 (though not by much) and bit more versatile, the iT32+X5C ($100) might be an option, but for more general-purpose portrait use or the like, a full-sized speedlight or V480 would give you a lot more options.
