Sony Inzone H5 Gaming Headset Review

It might improve audio positioning but I didn’t notice any such advantage, and so your mileage may vary. I have read some reviews that absolutely adore this feature, so your experience might be different to mine. But for me, I left that setting turned off for the most part. In terms of performance, the Sony Inzone H5 is fantastic. The 40mm drivers pump out pristine audio that is remarkably balanced across all frequency ranges. The most impressive part about the Inzone headsets' sound profile is the bass. The Inzone H5 comes with its own namesake companion software (Windows only) that offers basic settings like different audio presets and custom EQ profiles, along with control over the Dynamic Range, microphone auto gain and sidetone. Unfortunately, none of the settings are saved onto the headset itself, so they are PC only, which is a bit of a bummer because, despite being a Sony product, the Inzone headsets do not feature any such settings or even simple equalizer options on the PS5. The sleek design, feather-like comfort, and the smooth, punchy and detailed sound signature ticks all the boxes of what a good quality headset should offer. But we aren’t living in a vacuum and it’s easy to see that the H5 is definitely over priced. The Razer Barracuda X offers similar features and Bluetooth support for $100, and so does the Razer Kaira, and both of which have slightly better microphones, too. While my review of the Sony Inzone H9 was critically balanced (if I say so myself), personally, I absolutely loved the headset for what it offered me. It is supremely comfortable and offers great sound for the kind of games I play - and honestly, that’s all a headset has to do to keep me happy. I still continue to use it till this day. Sony’s new Inzone H5 borrows a lot from the previous entries in the lineup, and does some things even better.

Either on PC or PS5, it’s without a doubt that the H5 sounds and feels great, though it’s sad that we can’t seamlessly transfer from one’s preferred PC settings over to the PS5, as it feels like you really get the most out of the H5’s features on PC through the Inzone app, where you can adjust EQ settings and turn on spatial audio. You’ll have to tinker with the settings for each platform separately to get the preferred setup, a slight hindrance to those that often switch from one platform to another. ... As for PS5 users, when comparing this with the console’s Pulse 3D headset, the H5 blows it out of the water in comfort alone. The H5 also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack included in the headset, a feature which I hope doesn’t go away, as this makes the device versatile as it can transform into a wired headset for various devices that support the same ports. The package comes with its headphone cable, so I was able to treat it as a pair of wired headphones, using the H5 with my Switch as well as my mobile phone, making it a simple plug-and-play option if needed. But it’s not completely versatile, as for some reason Sony refuses to provide basic Bluetooth connectivity features to be used wirelessly - this is likely to add more emphasis on the USB dongle that comes with the product, which is necessary to use the H5 wirelessly on either PC or PS5. This alone can turn off many who may prefer other products for this lacking feature. ... The Inzone H5 wireless headset is a great mid-range product, perfect for long gaming sessions due to its lightweight frame and comfortable, unobtrusive design. The spatial audio is a clear winner, and its suitableness for long, painless sessions are two big selling factors that make the H5 distinct from the competition. The fact that it can be used as a wired headset on any device that supports a 3.5mm port is a great feature I hope we don’t see go away soon, as the versatility helps alleviate the lack of simple Bluetooth support.

For my review period, I spent the majority of my time with the H5 on PC, be it my desktop or Asus ROG Flow tablet. Simply by connecting the USB Receiver to the PC and setting the H5 to the default audio device it is ready to go. Latency comes in at an unnoticeable 30ms which is just below two frames in a 60 FPS title. As previously mentioned, the INZONE Hub app can be used to get more out of the headset audio quality, but additional features include tuning the mic volume and sidetone level, or manually adjusting the game/chat mixer. Unfortunately, the lack of Bluetooth may be a turn-off for some, but for anyone not needing the feature looking for their next mid-range gaming headset for PC or PS5 specifically, the Sony H5 is a great one to consider! Gaming Headset H5 Headset INZONE INZONE H5 Mac PC PS5 Review Sony Switch Xbox Series X|S ... I have had the opportunity to test out several great headsets and speakers and some bad ones over the last six years. One thing I know many will be sad to hear is that the H5 doesn’t feature any form of Bluetooth connectivity to let it seamlessly integrate with mobile devices. While the USB receiver can be used with Android and Switch, Bluetooth goes a long way for simplicity. If Bluetooth is something you can’t live without, unfortunately, the H5 won’t be for you. The Sony INZONE H5 continues the trend of midrange gaming headsets providing great sound and features for their price point. I have had the opportunity to review many headsets over the last seven years, from budget to audiophile. My favorite category has always been midrange since price to performance has yielded interesting results and caters to a wider variety of gamers. Sony’s new INZONE H5 gaming headset is no exception!

It is a mediocre mic that is heavily altered to appear much better than it is, and feels a little hollow as a result. Though muddled in execution for PS5 or mobile play, the Sony Inzone H5 is a super solid PC wireless headset that has more than enough excellent features to make up for its identity crisis. Blending a light weight, great battery, and some impressive software, this mid-range musical monster is momentous. Find out more about how we evaluate games and hardware. ... When Sony, the creator of the PlayStation, made a gaming headset based on a pretty gamer-centric name like the Inzone, I expected it to be console first, PC second. I am glad to report that my assumption was wrong. Though console players can, of course, use it for whatever nefarious purposes they might have, the Sony Inzone H5 is predominantly a PC gaming headset and is all the better for it. The Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 Max has been my gaming headset of choice until now, thanks to its great feel, excellent battery life, and intuitive connectivity. The Inzone H5 feels very different in what it aims to achieve.

While its sound profile isn’t going to win any awards, it is comfortable for long usage, and it does fit over the PSVR2 headset.
