MagneSafe IntelliHead - Magnetic Stripe Card Reader | MagTek
www.magtek.com
MagneSafe IntelliHead is a magnetic stripe card reader with tamper-resistant security and MagneSafe Security Architecture. The industry's first magnetic sensing, media validating security module for Android and Windows systems. The compact IntelliHead family of magnetic card reader heads is compatible with existing reading applications. The MagneSafe IntelliHead is a read head with built-in intelligence for the secure reading of magnetic stripe cards. It reads up to three tracks of data, is bi-directional and meets ANSI, ISO and AAMVA standards. The design incorporates MagTek’s revolutionary ASIC that securely encrypts cardholder data directly within the read head prior to transmission so no sensitive data is ever exposed. It further can tokenize data, generate dynamic data, and has the ability to authenticate the card and the data to ensure the card is not a counterfeit copy nor has the encoded data been altered. Reading more is a good thing. Both the standard card data and the underlying magnetic fingerprint of the card is read, all in a single swipe.

All XRD patterns indicate that amorphous structure of all products. The shake-up satellites are observed at higher energies of the XPS peaks. Perspective on nanoscale magnetic sensors using giant anomalous Hall effect in topological magnetic materials for read head application in magnetic recordingNakatani T.M., …, Sakuraba Y. Modern recording media are based on perpendicular magnetic recording that is the easy axis is oriented perpendicular to the disk surface. The primary function of a perpendicular recording head is to achieve a high perpendicular magnetic field magnitude, localized in a small area (less than 100 nm in cross-track direction) using small power and dissipation. Recording head switching required for transition recording should be completed in 1 ns or less, as determined by the disk drive data rate. Magnetic data storage devices initially used inductive transducers for both the read and the write function. Initially recording heads had a ferrite core made from bulk material and actual wires to magnetize the core for writing and picking up the inductive signal when reading. A significant improvement was the step to integrate thin film heads that allowed shrinking of the head dimensions and in particular the read/write pole width and the write gap length to micrometer dimensions. ... The areal density (AD) of magnetic recording systems has dramatically increased over the last several decades.
Magnetic Head for Card Reader Guide
electronics.alibaba.com
If you’re a typical user—integrating, repairing, or maintaining a card reader—you don’t need to overthink this: start with ISO-compliant read heads rated for both high-coercivity (HiCo) and low-coercivity (LoCo) cards, avoid unbranded sub-0.5mm heads unless you’re doing micro-integration prototyping, and prioritize vendor documentation over price alone. This piece isn’t for keyword collectors. It’s for people who will actually use the product. A magnetic head for card reader is the electromechanical component that physically reads data encoded on the magnetic stripe of credit cards, ID badges, transit passes, and hotel keycards. Unlike chips or contactless antennas, they degrade mechanically: misalignment, debris buildup, and coil fatigue reduce signal-to-noise ratio long before outright failure. Users now search “how to replace magnetic head for card reader” or “what to look for in magnetic head for card reader” not to upgrade features—but to restore reliability. Test with real cards—not simulators: Use worn, bent, and low-magnetization cards. If your chosen head fails on 10% of field-used cards, it’s not ready. Price alone misleads. Below is a realistic cost-to-value snapshot based on 2024 marketplace data (Alibaba, DigiKey, Tecisoft, Amazon CA): Note: The $329 “3mm head” listing is for multi-axis industrial scanners—not standard card readers. If you need to restore or extend the life of an existing magnetic stripe reader, choose an ISO-compliant, dual-coercivity head with published gap and impedance specs—and verify mechanical fit before ordering. If you’re designing new hardware, treat the magnetic head as a known-good fallback—not the primary interface.

GMR and Inductive Technologies Typical read/write heads use a giant magnetoreresistive (GMR) head for reading and an inductive coil for writing as in this illustration. I'm Maggie, PCMag's AI-powered product finder, exclusively powered by our deep library of reviews and buying advice written by our expert team of technology journalists. By discharging electrical impulses at the appropriate times, bits are recorded as tiny, magnetized spots of positive or negative polarity. For reading, the surface is moved past the read/write head, and the bits that are present induce an electrical current across the gap. A component that reads (senses) and writes (records) data on a magnetic disk or magnetic tape. For writing, the surface of the disk or tape is moved past the read/write head.
Disk read-and-write head - Wikipedia

This improves the written magnetic transitions by ensuring that the head's write field fully saturates the magnetic disk medium. The same thermal actuation approach can be used to temporarily decrease the separation between the disk medium and the read sensor during the readback process, thus improving signal strength and resolution. By mid-2006 other manufacturers have begun to use similar approaches in their products. In 1997 GMR, giant magnetoresistive heads started to replace AMR heads. Since the 1990s, a number of studies have been done on the effects of colossal magnetoresistance (CMR), which may allow for even greater increases in density. But so far it has not led to practical applications because it requires low temperatures and large equipment size. A disk read-and-write head is the small part of a disk drive that moves above the disk platter and transforms the platter's magnetic field into electric current (reads the disk) or, vice versa, transforms electric current into magnetic field (writes the disk). The heads themselves started out similar to the heads in tape recorders, simple devices made out of a tiny C-shaped piece of highly magnetizable material such as permalloy or ferrite wrapped in a fine wire coil. When writing, the coil is energized, a strong magnetic field forms in the gap of the C, and the recording surface adjacent to the gap is magnetized. When reading, the magnetized material rotates past the heads, the ferrite core concentrates the field, and a current is generated in the coil. In the gap the field is very strong and quite narrow. That gap is roughly equal to the thickness of the magnetic media on the recording surface.
