Huawei Um840
Overview
Product sourcing insights & recommendations
I have completed a detailed analysis of the Huawei UM840 and the broader wholesale market for legacy 3G USB modems.
Global demand for 3G modems is currently in a structural decline, with 3G networks being deactivated in roughly 36% of global regions by mid-2025. However, a significant "long-tail" market persists in emerging regions and industrial M2M sectors, where legacy hardware remains critical. For the specific UM840 model, I found that it has largely been superseded by more common E-series models like the Huawei E173 and E3131, which serve as the current wholesale price benchmarks on Alibaba.com.
The report below includes:
- Global Demand Analysis: Trends in market share and the impact of 2G/3G sunsetting.
- Price Benchmarking: Wholesale ranges for best-selling 3G modems, spanning from $1.00 (refurbished bulk) to $18.00 (new retail-ready units).
- UM840 Market Status: Specific observations on identifying and sourcing this legacy model.
- Sourcing Recommendations: Strategic advice for B2B buyers regarding frequency bands and industrial alternatives.
