Eight Trends for 2026: Pricing, Passion, and the Risks Ahead | ...
www.library.hbs.edu
From inflation to innovation, happiness to productivity, Harvard Business School faculty highlight the forces likely to shape business during the coming year. By Rachel Layne on December 19, 2025. Business leaders have had to navigate many competing forces during the past year—soaring markets and mixed economic signals, AI opportunities and fatigued consumers. The complexity will likely continue in 2026. We asked Harvard Business School faculty to share the trends leaders can expect in the coming year and offer research-backed advice for managing during these uncertain times. 2026 will be the year of the 10x founder—founders who operate with a level of velocity and productivity that is an order of magnitude greater than in prior generations. These founders are harnessing modern AI tools not simply to automate work, but to accelerate learning. Product-market fit is being found faster than ever as cycles of customer discovery, prototyping, and iteration continue to compress. In 2026, firms and managers may expect three things: Innovation will increasingly be “AI-augmented,” not AI-automated. Winners will treat AI as a collaborator that accelerates search, prototyping, and learning cycles, while investing heavily in human judgment and domain expertise when it comes to selection and implementation. Uncertainty about markets, regulation, and technology will persist. Another future is a world where we give firms’ targets the benefit of the doubt, motivating other firms to bring climate solutions to market at scale and at lower cost, and generating economic value along the way. Strong institutions that monitor and verify progress will make it easier to justify that benefit of the doubt. Shirley Lu is an assistant professor in the Accounting and Management Unit. As we move into 2026, health care organizations face a familiar but intensifying landscape of policy volatility, financial strain, and technological disruption.
Top Consumer Trends 2026: Market Research & Insights Brands Need ...
escalent.co
Escalent’s latest consumer research reveals a critical tension shaping 2026 marketing strategies: while over 40% of consumers are willing to pay more for products aligned with their values, price and affordability remain critical, with more than 60% still prioritizing value in their purchasing decisions. This balance between values-driven expectations and price sensitivity is defining the next era of consumer marketing. To help brands navigate this complexity, we have identified six consumer behavior trends that will define 2026, illustrated with real-world examples of how leading brands are responding to evolving customer needs. Key Takeaway: Experience-led value is outpacing product-led value, as consumers prioritize memorable, immersive, and emotionally engaging experiences over material goods. For market researchers, these six trends underscore the need for agile methodologies, cultural context, and advanced analytics. To truly understand the “why” behind consumer behavior in 2026, brands must move beyond surface-level metrics. As demonstrated by both in Sustainability Magazine, brands that integrate sustainability into their core strategy—not just marketing—build deeper trust and long-term loyalty. Key Takeaway: Sustainability has shifted from a differentiator to an expectation, with consumers increasingly holding brands accountable for environmental impact across the full value chain. Social commerce is transforming how consumers discover and purchase products. By 2026, 17% of online sales will occur through social platforms, with livestream shopping projected to hit close to $70B in the U.S in 2026. In a global consumer study by Quirks, 50% of consumers seek products that reflect their unique personalities, and 65% believe society celebrates them for being authentic. In 2026, hyper-segmentation and personalization strategies (powered by data, AI, and behavioral insights) are no longer optional, they’re essential.

With AI vibe coding tools and the barrier to entry to creating products just constantly getting lower and cheaper, winning the hearts and attention of your target customers is going to be the most important thing for every business. So one of the biggest marketing trends in 2026 is the use of generative AI. And while that sounds pretty obvious at the trajectory that we're going at currently, what matters most is how well you're able to guide these tools based off of a story and narrative that you create. In 2026, one of the biggest trends I'm seeing is that companies are embedding distribution into their products. They're learning how to prototype products. They're building their own media businesses. They're getting really good at design and taste. So yeah, 2026 is a wild year to be a marketer. But it’s also the best year so far. If you focus on the marketing trends I just laid out, you're going to be way ahead of most marketers out there.
