Icom Ic 7400
Overview
Product sourcing insights & recommendations
The ICOM IC-7400 (IC-746PRO) remains a respected transceiver in the used market, valued for its unique combination of HF, 6m, and 2m bands. While modern SDRs like the IC-7300 have higher market demand, the IC-7400's traditional ergonomics and 2-meter capability maintain its niche appeal. I have prepared a detailed market insight report covering its technical reliability—specifically the well-known RF driver issue—and its current competitive standing against newer models.
Key insights include:
- Resale Value: Typically ranges from $600 to $850, depending on whether the RF driver fix has been implemented.
- Technical Vulnerability: The original PA-Driver IC is a frequent failure point; verified repairs or third-party kits are essential for longevity.
- Market Positioning: The 144 MHz (2m) band is the primary advantage over the newer IC-7300, which only covers HF/6m.
Please refer to the attached report for a full technical breakdown and strategic sourcing recommendations.
