The term 'IR LAN' primarily refers to Infrared Local Area Networks, a historical wireless networking technology that uses infrared light instead of radio frequencies for secure, room-contained data transmission Wustl Blackboxab. While traditional IR LANs have largely been replaced by Wi-Fi, the concept has evolved into modern LAN-to-IR (Ethernet/Wi-Fi to Infrared) converters and smart home hubs that bridge digital networks with legacy IR-controlled devices like air conditioners and AV equipment Facebook Homekitnews.

Market Trends & Insights (2025-2026)

* Matter Protocol Integration: A major shift in 2026 is the native support for IR controllers within the Matter smart home standard Homekitnews. This enables budget-friendly devices (approx. $28 USD) to work seamlessly across Apple Home, Google Home, and Alexa ecosystems without complex workarounds Yourmatterhome Homekitnews.

* Budget Bridging Strategy: As homeowners add smart capabilities to improvement projects, IR blasters are trending as cost-effective tools to "smarten" older appliances, with the smart home hub market projected to reach $226 billion by 2026 Researchandmarkets Hiri.

* Industrial & Secure Use Cases: IR LAN concepts remain relevant in healthcare and secure government environments where radio frequency (RF) interference must be avoided and signal containment is critical Wustl Blackboxab.

Product Analysis

Current B2B offerings focus on Wi-Fi/Ethernet IR Blasters that integrate with Tuya or Smart Life apps. Entry-level units are priced as low as $3.20 - $7.00, while more sophisticated Matter-compatible or industrial-grade bridges range from $12 - $28+ Homekitnews.
