Product Insights
- Core Specs: Features 50mm drivers, a 20-hour battery life, and Multi-point connectivity allowing seamless switching between two devices BhphotovideoJbl.
- Key Strengths: Highly praised for its soundstage (unusually open for a closed-back budget pair) and comfort for glasses wearers Soundguys.
- Key Weaknesses: The hardware is now outdated, relying on Bluetooth 4.0 and micro-USB charging. The all-plastic build is also noted for being prone to creaking SoundguysConsumerreports.
- Quincy Edition: A premium version fine-tuned by Quincy Jones was also released, featuring leather materials and unique voice prompts Jbl.
Market Trends & Alternatives
- Market Status: Officially discontinued. Consumers are now advised to look toward newer iterations like the JBL Tune 760NC or JBL Live series, which offer USB-C, better codec support (AAC/aptX), and Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) SoundguysRtings.
- 2026 Consumer Trends: The market is shifting toward hyper-personalization and sustainability. Future audio trends focus on "audio assistants" with AI-driven noise cancellation and premium minimalist textures over the high-gloss plastic seen on the E55BT Whathifi.
- B2B Availability: While the official model is off shelves, high-quality OEM alternatives with similar 50mm drivers and 20h+ battery life are widely available for sourcing from manufacturers in Shenzhen and Guangzhou AlibabaAlibaba.
I have compiled three files detailing current B2B alternatives and similar product specifications to help you navigate the post-discontinuation market.

JBL E55BT review - SoundGuys

The JBL E55BT is discontinued, but if you can find it used, it's still a solid headset with some outdated hardware. Learn more in our review! The E55BT is a perfectly fine headset for commuters, but JBL has discontinued it. If you can find this used or renewed, it will likely be priced very affordably. However, in today’s market, you’re better off buying something new with better hardware and codec support. ... JBL thoughtfully approaches consumer audio demands with the E-Series line. This plastic collection seeks to meet our needs by providing affordable Bluetooth products without sacrificing sound quality or functionality. It makes sense that JBL would forgo pandering to aesthetes in order to please ears. But the proportions are just silly. The 50mm driver housing protrudes too much relative to the flat headband. Features are slim. The JBL E55BT includes a micro USB charging cable and 3.5mm removable cable with an in-line mic and a one-button remote. Commuters will enjoy the good sound isolation is impressive with the E55BT. Clamping force keeps out a good chunk of ambient noise without inducing headaches. The ability to switch from one device to another is helpful if you’re watching a video on your tablet and receive a call on your phone. The plastic doesn’t hinge reinforcement is an apparent weak point of the JBL E55BT headphones.
