Before purchasing the Baijiali KK-9 radio, I read a lot of reviews about this cheap, Chinese receiver, and every opinion from 5-15 years ago spoke about this device as about a disappointing product. I saw even Youtube video, which demonstrated that this item receives something on FM and AM, but nothing on all the SW bands. Just out of curiosity I've ordered this incredibly cheap FM/AM/SW radio that looks suspiciously like a Tecsun R-909 for less than 6 euros from… We are finally living in the golden age of shortwave radio... ... OK, mystery solved and I didn't even had to open its case again. Which is a good thing, because every time I do, the screws seem to eat into the plastic of their holes a bit more and the case gets closer to breaking in pieces. I've found this Youtube video from an Italian folk who shows a clever hardware mod enabling the KK-9 to cover the 27 Mhz CB band: https://youtu.be/YutcKXT9TAc?si=-3bTwIrGGJSrwccb He clearly identified the DSP chip as as KT0936M. I'd say that this chip looks clearly superior to the Skyworks ones, if only considering the signal catching abilities it gives to an ultra-cheap minimalist radio with a tiny antenna. I'm trying to imagine what a fine receiver could be made around it, with maybe some additional filtering, a digital tuner, a complete set of buttons, a good antenna and a proper speaker. I have failed to find any reference to an existing set using this chip that would be less entry level price. If such exists, I'd certainly be willing to purchase it because what it gives to the KK-9 is quite promising.
