* Base Units: Standard widescreen models with Intel graphics typically retail for $50–$100 Alibaba.

* Premium Models: Rare 4:3 aspect ratio models or units verified to have the "post-2008" NVIDIA motherboard (which fixed a major chip defect) can fetch $250+ from collectors Alibaba.

* Component Scarcity: Upgrading these machines is becoming increasingly expensive. For instance, DDR2 4GB RAM modules are rare and can cost upwards of $32–$70 per stick on the wholesale market Alibaba Alibaba.

Key Product Insights & Modifications

Enthusiasts maintain T61 relevance through several "mandatory" modifications:

* Middleton’s BIOS: Unlocks SATA II (3Gbps) speeds (essential for SSDs), removes Wi-Fi whitelists for modern Wi-Fi 6 upgrades, and enables Intel Dynamic Acceleration Alibaba.

* The "FrankenPad": A popular mod where a T61 motherboard is transplanted into a ThinkPad T60 chassis to combine T61 performance with the T60's superior 4:3 FlexView IPS display Reddit Alibaba.

* NVIDIA GPU Risk: Early T61 models (pre-August 2008) are prone to terminal GPU failure (the "bump crack" issue). Collectors specifically target late-2008 production units for reliability Alibaba.

Supply Analysis

Direct bulk supply of T61 units has largely dried up on major platforms, with current inventories shifting toward newer refurbished models like the HP ProBook 440 G2 ($130) or ThinkPad X1 Carbon ($170+) Alibaba Alibaba.
