It's not high priority on my things-to-do list, but I've been seeing these "custom" GBA's using parts from funnyplaying and etc., & I do have an old translucent blue GBA that is top notch internally but beat up on the outside, so a perfect candidate. (Was also thinking GBA consolizer, but they're awol for the foreseeable future and cost too much for what you got when they were available.) The IPS is a more modern, brighter and vibrant display at a higher resolution than the GBA had. The ITA screen is the same as was used for the DSi bottom screen, with the same 240x160 resolution as the GBA. More authentic, but not necessarily better. Sponsored post hidden. My understanding based on an old post around here is that there were multiple suppliers of LCDs and some of them had more ghosting than others, and over time the LCD quality became more consistent.

When I was a kid I much preferred the SP version for obvious reasons which is the fact that version of the GBA has a backlit screen which let me..… I bought a used GBA SP and reshelled it. ... Reddit, Inc. © 2026. I had a GBA screen modded and the installer said all IPS screens need the shell trimmed if wanting to stick with the original shell. ... None that won't need a cut of the shell. Your best bet is a laminated kit with a custom shell. If IPS Hispeedido do the best screens but the shells are lousy. Funnyplaying have much better shells but the ips screens aren't integer scaled so the image is soft. My recommendation is the funny playing ita kit. Nowadays apparently there are mods for the original GBA version where it can also have a backlit screen too.
