The LG V30S ThinQ, launched at MWC 2018, represents a unique moment in mobile history where "AI" branding was first applied to flagship hardware through LG's ThinQ ecosystem. Theverge It was a mid-cycle refresh that bridge the gap between the 2017 V30 and the 2018 G7, primarily serving as a platform to debut LG's software-driven AI features. Gsmarena

Product Analysis & Trends

* AI Integration Pioneer: The "ThinQ" name introduced AI Cam (subject recognition) and Bright Mode (pixel binning for low light). Theverge While revolutionary at the time, these features were largely software-based and eventually ported to the older V30, which diluted the V30S's market value. TechradarTheverge

* Hardware Bottleneck: The device was criticized for using the Snapdragon 835 in 2018, while competitors (and even LG’s own G7 ThinQ released shortly after) adopted the newer Snapdragon 845. TechradarGsmarena

* Core Strengths: It remains highly regarded in niche circles for its 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC, premium haptic feedback, and military-grade (MIL-STD-810G) durability. TechradarTheverge

Market Insights (2026 Perspective)

* Scarcity & Collector Status: Current B2B search data indicates that the V30S ThinQ is extremely rare in the wholesale/refurbished market compared to the standard V30 or the newer V60.

* Resale Dynamics: It has transitioned from a general-use smartphone to a niche audiophile device. Users often seek this specific model for its analog audio performance rather than its computing capabilities. Reddit

* Software Obsolescence: As LG has exited the mobile market, the V30S no longer receives official security updates, though it remains a popular target for custom ROMs like LineageOS to extend its lifespan. GsmarenaReddit

LG V30S ThinQ review | TechRadar

shared at MWC 2018 that the aforementioned smart camera features will be making their way to older V30 phones. With that much being known, there’s not a whole lot of steam behind this release, unless barely incremental tweaks to the hardware is enough to get you excited. That’s not to say, out of this context, that V30S ThinQ isn’t an awesome phone. Add in the fact that the LG G7 ThinQ was likely to be cheaper than that price, and it really didn't make sense. ... The LG V30S ThinQ is the smartphone mistake that LG can’t afford to make. As a follow-up to the competent LG V30 released in 2017, this new Android phone serves little purpose beyond confusing people with a different name, yet few other changes. The V30S ThinQ is available in South Korea at around 820,000 Won, floating over one million Won at carrier locations. This launch price is similar to that of the V30. We currently don’t have pricing nailed down for the US, or other regions, but we expect it to be similar to LG’s V30. The rear-facing fingerprint sensor on the back presses in to toggle the screen on and off. Other features include the USB-C charging port and speaker, both of which are on the bottom of the phone. Yep, a bottom-firing speaker means that the LG V30S ThinQ is one of the few flagship phones that without stereo speakers.

Verdict and competition - LG V30S ThinQ review - Page 4 | TechRadar

You can find every one of its good assets present in the V30S ThinQ, though LG is short on reasons as to why its latest is a smart purchase over last year's still-excellent V30. As such, so are we. The V30 is the better buy, since it, too, is lacking in current spec like the Snapdragon 845. The LG V30S ThinQ is a mixed message, to say the least. It’s possible that this phone is acting to set the stage for the LG G7, what with its smart camera additions. More to that point, aside from having Android Oreo ahead of some V30 phones, the V30S ThinQ's fancy AI camera features are said to be timed exclusives, coming to the V30 in time. Simply put, the V30S ThinQ isn’t the best way to spend your money.

LG V30S ThinQ: pre-ordering now costs less than before | TechRadar

The LG V30S ThinQ is now available for pre-order in US. Announced at MWC 2018, this is LG’s slightly improved take on the 2017 LG V30, boasting a boost in the RAM department, up to 6GB of RAM over four, double the storage at 128GB, and smart camera features. Is the V30S ThinQ a good phone? Yes. But at this point in 2018, to say that the V30S ThinQ is a bad value is a bit of an understatement. Compared to the LG G7 ThinQ that’s set to launch on May 2, this one features last year’s Snapdragon 835 – a proficient, but outdated chipset. We weren’t sure if the device would ever roll out on a global basis, and frankly, we weren’t sure if it deserved to because of its strictly iterative adjustments to the V30 formula, and what with the LG G7 ThinQ coming very soon. Get daily insight, inspiration and deals in your inbox · Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. If you have an LG V30, there’s little reason to upgrade. The V30S ThinQ has the same design and similar internal components down to the screen and chipset. Update: Perhaps in response to low pre-order numbers, or just backlash, B&H has lowered the price of the LG V30S ThinQ by a whopping $200.

LG V30S ThinQ vs LG V30: here’s what we think so far | TechRadar

There’s nothing wrong with iterative upgrades to smartphones, especially to ones we like as much as the LG V30. But to say that the jump from last year’s flagship, which was one of 2017’s best Android phones, to the LG V30S ThinQ is an iteration on the hit formula is quite the overstatement. Either way, we’re taking a close look at the LG V30S Plus ThinQ (the 256GB variant) to see if it’s worth your attention over the still-competent LG V30, which will likely drop in price as a result of the new phone’s release around the globe. Lastly, a new featured called Bright Mode, automatically detects dark environments and kicks up the exposure to illuminate what would otherwise be a murky landscape. By using the same hardware found in the V30, the V30S ThinQ seems to simply extends the shutter speed to let more light in per shot. When it comes to hardware changes from the V30 to the V30S ThinQ, you’ll only find differences in the memory department. Moving up from the 64GB found in the standard V30 and 128GB featured in the V30 Plus, the V30S features 128GB by default, while the new V30S Plus makes the jump to 256GB of internal storage.

If you’re someone who leans heavily on their smartphone to capture memories, you might want to think twice before investing in the V30S ThinQ. Sure, it’s capable of good shots, but smartphone photography has really moved leaps and bounds since the V30 released. Focusing on what’s new in the V30S ThinQ (all of which has been confirmed to later arrive on the V30), let’s take a look at AI Cam and QLens. Both options sit cozily near the shutter button in the camera app. If you give QLens a tap, the software will look for an item to scan, which it can find a match for on Amazon or Pinterest. One addition that we’re unsure will make it to the V30 is the new Bright Mode found in the camera app. The camera can get a read on the lighting in your environment, and either boost the aperture or reduce it. Both the V30 and V30S ThinQ boast an f/1.6 aperture, though we noticed much better results from the newer device. When it comes to charging the V30S ThinQ from a dead state, we achieved similar results to the V30.
