The market for MacBook A1708 display components (specifically for the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2016–2017) is currently defined by a major shift from expensive full-assembly replacements to localized, component-level repairs due to the well-documented "Flexgate" issue Tiktok Tekdep.

1. Key Product Insights

* The "Flexgate" Failure: The A1708 model is prone to backlight failure caused by short, fragile flex cables that tear over time. Symptoms include "stage lighting" at the bottom of the screen or a complete blackout when the lid is opened past 90 degrees Alibaba Tekdep.

* Assembly Specifications: Full replacement units typically feature a 13.3" Retina display with 2560x1600 resolution. These are often cross-compatible with the A1706 (Touch Bar) model Alibaba.

* Quality Tiers: The market offers three main tiers: Original New (harvested from new units), Original Refurbished (original LCD with new glass/cables), and Third-Party/Aftermarket (lower color accuracy but cheaper).

2. Market & Pricing Trends

A significant pricing gap exists between official repair channels and the independent B2B market:

* Wholesale Pricing: On B2B platforms like Alibaba, a complete A1708 LCD assembly ranges from $65 to $210 depending on order volume and quality certification Alibaba Alibaba.

* Retail/Amazon Pricing: Single-unit replacements for consumers are priced between $150 and $180 Amazon.

* The Repair Shift: There is growing demand for LCD flex cables as standalone parts. While the assembly costs ~$150+, the cable itself is only $1–$10 at wholesale Alibaba. This has fueled a niche market for micro-soldering services, allowing repairs for $150–$250 total versus the $500+ charged by Apple Tekdep.

3. Sourcing Recommendations

* Shenzhen Dominance: Most reliable "Original Quality" suppliers are concentrated in Shenzhen, China, with transaction volumes exceeding $170k for top-tier vendors Alibaba.

* Warranty Awareness: Leading third-party repairers now offer 12-month warranties to counter the inherent design flaws of the original Apple cables Tekdep.
