How to Source RAM and CPUs Amid 2026 Memory Shortage

The market for memoria ram and cpu in 2026 is defined by a significant memory shortage—often called "RAMageddon"—which is driving up hardware prices and shifting consumer behavior. Supply chains have prioritized high-margin AI data center memory (HBM4), causing a squeeze on consumer DRAM and NAND supply that is expected to last into 2027. Idc Facebook

Market Trends & Insights

* Pricing Surges: RAM prices have climbed significantly, with some forecasts suggesting a 4% to 8% rise in PC average selling prices (ASPs) and up to 15–20% hikes for major OEM contracts. Idc Tomshardware

* The AI PC Paradox: While new "AI PCs" require a minimum of 16GB of RAM, the soaring cost of memory is forcing manufacturers to keep specs at 8GB or 16GB, potentially slowing local AI adoption. Idc

* Consumer Shift: To offset costs, users are increasingly turning to value-driven platforms like AMD's AM4 socket, which supports affordable DDR4 memory, or opting for pre-built systems where OEMs have better supply leverage. Tomshardware

Technological Developments

* DDR5 & Next-Gen RAM: DDR5 is currently standard but faces extreme pressure. New standards like LPDDR6 (targeted for 2026) and DDR6 (expected 2027+) promise speeds reaching up to 17600 MT/s. Techpowerup Newegg

* Next-Gen CPUs:

* Intel: The Xeon 7 (Diamond Rapids) architecture supports high-speed MRDIMM Gen 2, while consumer Nova Lake chips (late 2026) will introduce "Coyote Cove" P-cores. Techpowerup

* AMD: The Zen 6 architecture is expected to transition to the TSMC 2nm node, continuing support for the AM5 socket until 2029. Techpowerup
