Mfp M225dn
Overview
Product sourcing insights & recommendations
The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M225dn is currently a legacy monochrome all-in-one printer that has been officially discontinued by HP HpHp. It remains a popular choice in the secondary market due to its reliability, but the market has largely shifted toward its direct successor, the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M227fdn DesertcartLimteam.
Market Trends & Status
* Discontinued Lifecycle: The M225dn was replaced by the M227fdn to provide faster print speeds (30 ppm vs. 26 ppm) and modern security features like HP JetAdvantage DesertcartLimteam.
* Secondary Market Demand: There is still active trade for refurbished and used M225dn units, with prices trending around $220–$274 depending on condition Facebook. In the B2B space, refurbished successors like the M227 series are quoted between $258–$288 for bulk orders .
* Supply Chain Resilience: A significant market exists for compatible toner cartridges (HP 83A/83X). High-yield aftermarket toners (CF283X) are widely available, supporting the long-term use of existing M225dn fleets AmazonMicrocenter.
Product Insights & Performance
* Core Strengths: Users consistently praise the M225dn for its automatic two-sided printing (duplex) and reliable networking capabilities HpInkjets. It is frequently cited as a "workhorse" for small offices Limteam.
* Key Issues: Common user complaints include connectivity stability (specifically with scanning functions over time) and the "nightmare" of software setup for older drivers on modern operating systems DesertcartReddit.
* The "Dumb Printer" Appeal: Interestingly, the M227fdn (the successor) is often recommended in tech communities (like Reddit) for users seeking a "dumb" laser printer—one that avoids the complex cloud-based subscription requirements (like HP+) found in the newest models Reddit.
