The phrase 'mtk6797 tablet' refers to devices powered by the MediaTek Helio X20 or X27 chipset, a deca-core (10-core) processor family originally released in 2016. In the 2026 market, these tablets occupy an ultra-budget niche but face significant performance and security challenges.

Product Overview & Specifications

The MTK6797 was the industry's first Tri-Cluster Deca-core architecture, utilizing two high-performance Cortex-A72 cores alongside eight Cortex-A53 power-efficient cores Phonearena Notebookcheck.

Performance: Benchmark scores (AnTuTu ~90k) are now considered entry-level, comparable to budget smartphones from 6–8 years ago Notebookcheck.
Display & Connectivity: Most current models offer 10.1-inch IPS screens (1280x800 or 1920x1200) and support dual 4G LTE SIM cards Alibaba Dhgate.
OS Discrepancy: While some listings claim to support Android 15, the native hardware typically supports only up to Android 8.1. Claims of newer versions are often firmware modifications (spoofing) that lack modern security protocols Dhgate Shein.

Market Trends & Insights

1Extreme Price Erosion: Wholesale prices for MTK6797 tablets have dropped significantly, often found between $38–$117 depending on RAM/Storage configurations Walmart Made-In-China.
2Transition to "E-Waste" Niche: As of 2026, these devices are increasingly positioned for low-intensity commercial tasks (e.g., smart home dashboards, POS kiosks) or as offline media players for children, rather than primary personal computers Facebook.
3Manufacturing Obsolescence: The 20nm process node used for the MTK6797 is highly inefficient compared to modern 3nm/4nm chips, leading to high heat generation and poor battery life in modern app environments Notebookcheck.
4Supply Availability: While still available on B2B platforms like Alibaba and DHgate, inventory is primarily composed of older stock or generic OEM assemblies, as newer budget chips (like the Helio G-series) have largely replaced them in production lines Alibaba.

Sourcing Recommendation

* For Business: Avoid as a primary tablet due to security risks associated with legacy Android versions.

* For Kiosks: Viable only if the application is extremely lightweight and operates on a closed network.

* Visual Reference: Most current MTK6797 tablets follow a standard 10.1-inch form factor with thick bezels typical of mid-2010s designs.
