They are a popular choice for consumers looking for a portable and convenient way to enjoy various entertainment content like movies, TV shows, capsule games, and even productivity applications on the go. This projector runs on the latest Google TV operating system, providing users with an all-new curated streaming experience with native access to services, such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime Video, directly from the projector. Google TV is the latest and most powerful operating system available from Google. The Nebula Capsule 3 also has built-in Wi-Fi and support for the latest Bluetooth 5.1 protocol. Also, many other projectors in this class don't offer motion smoothing. Does the Capsule 3 support HDR content? Surprisingly, yes. Does the Capsule 3 display HDR with improved black levels, improved dark and highlight area details, and enhanced color performance compared to SDR? No. Despite trying to see a visible difference between HDR and SDR content, I could not. Also, Nebula does not mention HDR compatibility for this model on the product website, the box, or the user manual. The XGIMI and the Nebula offer users a full-featured smart OS experience with access to all the most popular streaming applications, casual games, and even productivity applications, including a native Netflix application. The XGIMI MoGo 2 Pro is a portable projector encompassing nearly all vital functionalities desired of a portable smart projector. However, it does miss one key feature - the integrated battery, which gives a huge advantage to the Nebula Capsule 3. I measured the Capsule's brightness by setting the projector's PICTURE mode to BRIGHT, which provided the highest light output in my testing. I then took 3-4 readings about 15-20% out from the center of the lens. The LED light source of Capsule 3 measured 201 ANSI lumens, spot on with Nebula's published 200 ANSI lumens specification.

When choosing a portable projector, it is important to consider certain features to ensure it meets your needs. The Nebula Capsule 3 Laser is a portable projector that covers all the essential features. Firstly, it is highly portable with its compact size of 3.3” D X 6.7” H and weight of just 2.1 lbs., making it easy to carry around. Lastly, the auto focus and auto keystone correction allow for quick adjustments to ensure clear and properly shaped images, even if the projector is not positioned at a perfect angle. Overall, the Nebula Capsule 3 Laser is a versatile and reliable portable projector that meets all the important requirements for a great viewing experience. For clarification, the name of Samsung’s projector is, in fact, “The Freestyle” I’m not mistyping its name. As of the writing of this review, XGIMI’s Halo+ retails for $739, which I can only assume is a price drop to be more competitive. The Halo+ retailed for $849 when I reviewed it back in 2021. Samsung’s The Freestyle retails for $799.99. As you can see, the Nebula Capsule 3 Laser has some stiff competition in the $800 portable projector category. The Nebula Capsule 3 Laser claims 300 ANSI lumens of brightness, the Halo+ claims 900 ANSI lumens, and The Freestyle has a manufacturer claim of 550 lumens. Samsung chose not to measure its projector brightness in ANSI lumens. Lumens and ANSI lumens are both units of measurement used to describe the brightness of a projector or other display device.

We’re always on the lookout for ways to take our love of music and movies out of the living room. With this in mind, our eye has been well and truly caught by Anker’s Nebula Capsule 3: an ultra-portable battery-powered projector with built-in streaming services that’s also capable of serving as a Bluetooth speaker. Can such a pint-sized product really cram so much in and still deliver the performance goods? ... The Nebula Capsule 3 sits toward the upper end of the ultra-portable projector market. It immediately starts to justify its relatively high price, though, through the quality of its design and the number of features it supports. While the Nebula Capsule 3 isn’t pitched specifically as a gaming projector, it does carry a Game Extreme picture preset that can get input lag down to a solid (by projector standards) 45.1ms with a 1080p/60Hz signal. Coming to the Nebula Capsule 3 straight after checking out the step-up Nebular Mars 3 Air, it’s immediately obvious that the smaller, cheaper projector is much less bright. Anker’s own specifications for both projectors state that the Capsule 3 is literally half as bright as the Mars 3 Air, and that’s exactly how it looks.

The Capsule 3 is the second projector I’ve tested from Nebula, a brand under the same umbrella as Anker, the popular purveyor of power products. I first tested the Nebula Solar back in 2022. When you can buy a passable 1080p projector for half that, you’ve got to ask yourself how much the Capsule’s compact design and impeccable style are worth to you. That said, at time of writing the Capsule 3 is on sale for a much more palatable £380, but that’s still a lotta beans and if I weren’t lucky enough to be writing about one… I don’t think I’d buy it. But, yes, speaking of luck Anker/Nebula were kind enough to supply the Capsule 3 for review, which is great because I don’t make a shred of pocket lint running this time and monkey sink of a blog. If you’re used to regular, non-portable projectors then the first thing that will surprise you about the Capsule 3 is its size. While it’s cylindrical it stands just slightly taller than my phone, and is just slightly wider too. Despite its diminutive size Nebula have somehow managed to squeeze in a USB port, an HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio jack and – thank you – a USB Type-C connector for power. I removed a shelf from our bedroom wall and filled the holes roughly (planning to sand them and repaint later) and the projector sees and avoids the rough patch on the wall. In some cases this is desirable, but if you’ve got an old house and less than perfect walls you might find it frustrating. By comparison the Nebula Capsule 3 sits flat and shoots high by default so it’s really practical for setups like…

Based strictly on list prices, the $799 Anker Nebula Capsule 3 Laser portable projector is a head-to-head competitor with the Xgimi Halo+. But while the two have some obvious similarities—both are 1080p mini projectors with built-in batteries—they also have different strengths. Compared with the Halo+, the Nebula Capsule 3 Laser isn't as bright, which means you'll need to stay with a slightly smaller image size. But it's one of the lightest mini projectors available—1.4 pounds lighter than the Halo+—and it offers the best combination of color accuracy, contrast, and shadow detail we've yet seen in a mini projector. If you'd rather spend less, consider the Anker Nebula Solar Portable (if you need a projector with a built-in battery), or the Xgimi Elfin (for AC power only). But if you want top-tier picture quality for a mini projector, combined with minimum weight for easy portability, the Anker Nebula Capsule 3 Laser is probably the projector you want.
