Norstar Phone

The Norstar phone system, a legacy PBX platform originally by Nortel, is currently in an End-of-Life (EOL) state with no manufacturer support since 2015. Despite this, it remains active in many SMB offices due to its legendary hardware durability. Market activity is now centered on the refurbished secondary market for maintenance and hybrid migration to modern IP platforms.

Key insights include:

• Secondary Market Value: Refurbished handsets like the Norstar M7310 ($45–$65) and T7316E ($65–$95) are still widely available through specialty resellers, though system components like power supplies and trunk cards are becoming increasingly scarce.
• Critical Technical Risks: Aging internal super-capacitors and power supplies are common points of failure that can lead to total system data loss or hardware death, with no official path for keycode recovery.
• Modern Migration Trends: The most popular upgrade path involves using Avaya IP Office hardware to bridge legacy digital handsets into a modern VoIP environment, allowing businesses to retain their desk phones while accessing features like voicemail-to-email.

Detailed technical findings, pricing trends, and migration strategies are provided in the comprehensive report below.
