I own two Nvidia GPUs that are now around a decade old and still work fine. I even have an old GTX 770 that still functions, although I don't use it often anymore. Even if these GPUs still technically work, they're too old for any serious gaming in 2026. After a final normal Game Ready Driver release in October 2025, Nvidia moved Maxwell and Pascal GeForce GPUs to quarterly security updates through October 2028 instead, which is about as clear a sign of legacy status as you're going to get.

GTX 770 Guide: What to Know Before Buying or Using One

It lacks driver support after NVIDIA’s March 2023 end-of-life for Kepler GPUs 2, cannot run DirectX 12 Ultimate titles, and delivers sub-30 FPS in most 2022+ releases at 1080p low settings. This piece isn’t for keyword collectors. It’s for people who will actually use the product — whether to troubleshoot an aging rig, repurpose hardware, or decide between repair and replacement. For light desktop use, legacy media playback, or as a temporary stopgap under £25, it may suffice — but only if your PSU delivers stable 6-pin + 8-pin PCIe power and your motherboard supports PCIe 3.0 x16. The signal isn’t “this card got better.” It’s “fewer alternatives exist under £20 that fit legacy ATX cases and boot Windows 10 without driver headaches.” · People deploy the GTX 770 in three distinct ways — each with divergent trade-offs: ⚙️ Primary gaming GPU (2013–2018) ✔ Pros: Delivered smooth 1080p in its era; supported NVIDIA 3D Vision and PhysX. If you need a working display adapter for legacy hardware and have under £25 to spend, the GTX 770 remains technically viable — provided you accept its limitations: no driver updates, no modern API support, and declining hardware reliability. If you need consistent frame rates in any title released after 2020, choose a GTX 1050 Ti or RX 570 instead — they cost nearly the same but deliver measurable, future-compatible gains. If you’re a typical user, you don’t need to overthink this: it’s not a “budget gaming card” — it’s a legacy artifact.

Dear reader, let‘s take a nostalgic trip back to 2013 when Nvidia introduced the mighty GeForce GTX 770 graphics card. It swiftly dominated the high-end GPU space with some labeling it the best enthusiast card for 1080p gaming. Now after a decade, I‘ll showcase whether this old warhorse can still keep up with modern titles and creative workloads. The GTX 770 launched on May 30th, 2013 with a $399 MSRP, targeting serious gamers wanting maxed out 1080p performance in all the latest titles like Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4. Nvidia slotted this card between 2012‘s GTX 670 and the new flagship GTX 780. It served as a replacement for the prior generation GTX 670, handingily outperforming it through Optimizations in Nvidia‘s Kepler GPU architecture. Reviewers unanimously crowned the GTX 770 the new price-per-performance king thanks to its extremely powerful 2048 CUDA cores and abundant memory bandwidth from a speedy 256-bit bus. For these use cases – retro gaming, eSports, basic content creation – I suggest considering a used GTX 770. It leads budget pre-builts with Intel integrated graphics by a wide margin while costing only around $120. However, for only $30-50 more, Nvidia‘s latest entry-level GeForce GT 1030 DDR5 and AMD Radeon RX 6400 offer profoundly better efficiency and future-proofing.
