Between 2005 and 2020, US load growth was 0.1% per year. They deserve credit for the foresight to do this, and the west deserves some blame- load growth was forecastable, even if data center growth wasn't. But a big part of it is simply that China is still in the process of building the infrastructure of a developed country, where the west in in a maintenance phase. Until recently, we were replacing transformers at the end of life, for the most part, and they have been on a rapid growth trajectory for over thirty years.
