Qualcomm Snapdragon Factory
Overview
Product sourcing insights & recommendations
I have analyzed the phrase "qualcomm snapdragon factory" and provided a comprehensive market report for 2026. The key finding is that the term is a misnomer; Qualcomm is a fabless company that designs processors while manufacturing is handled by third-party foundries like TSMC AndroidauthorityRedditQualcomm.
The report detailed below covers the transition toward Dragonwing for physical AI, the expansion of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis in automotive, and the growth of Edge AI which allows high-parameter models to run locally on-device MediumEl-AltSphericalinsights. I have also included sourcing data for Snapdragon-based development modules and industrial boards available for wholesale .
I have completed the report on Qualcomm's business model and 2026 trends. You can continue with:

Snapdragon chips are also used in Android-based smartwatches, and in vehicles like the Maserati Quattroporte and Cadillac XTS. In early 2011, Qualcomm announced Krait, an in-house CPU microarchitecture design supporting the ARM v7 instruction set. SoCs featuring Krait were named S4, supporting asynchronous symmetrical multi-processing (aSMP), meaning each processor core adjusted its clock speed and voltage based on the device's activity in order to optimize battery usage. Qualcomm announced it was developing the Scorpion central processing unit (CPU) in November 2007. The Snapdragon system on chip (SoC) was announced in November 2006 and included the Scorpion processor, as well as other semiconductors. According to a Qualcomm spokesperson, it was named Snapdragon, because "Snap and Dragon sounded fast and fierce." The following month, Qualcomm acquired Airgo Networks for an undisclosed amount; it said Airgo's 802.11a/b/g and 802.11n Wi-Fi technology would be integrated with the Snapdragon product suite. By 2011 Snapdragon was embedded in Hewlett Packard's WebOS devices and had a 50% market share of a $7.9 billion smartphone processor market. As of July 2014 Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips were embedded in 41% of smartphones.

"Qualcomm Snapdragon 801: Performance Previewed". Tom's Hardware. Retrieved March 9, 2026. The APQ prefix stands for Application Processor Qualcomm [...] MSM (Mobile Station Modem) [...] APQ simply means no modem, while MSM means that some form of modem is included [...] The second numeral is zero in the APQ SKU, while that digit is a nine in the MSM SKU. Unlike the later models of the 600 series, Snapdragon 600 was considered a high-end SoC similar to the Snapdragon 800, and was the direct successor of both the Snapdragon S4 Plus and S4 Pro. The Snapdragon 615 was Qualcomm's first octa-core SoC. The 6s 4G series (2024–) targets cost-sensitive 4G-only markets using recycled architectures on mature nodes. Notable examples include the 6s 4G Gen 1 (rebadged SM6115 (Snapdragon 662) from 2020) and Gen 2 (rebadged SM6225 (Snapdragon 680/685) from 2021). Qualcomm adopted generational naming in 2022 with the Snapdragon 6 series. The Snapdragon X1 series comprises the first generation of Snapdragon X laptop-focused SoCs, including Snapdragon X Elite (model prefix X1E), Snapdragon X Plus (X1P), and Snapdragon X (X1), which share common platform elements such as Qualcomm's Oryon CPU branding, Adreno integrated graphics, and a Hexagon NPU specified by Qualcomm at up to 45 TOPS for on-device AI workloads across multiple X1 configurations. The Snapdragon is a brand of systems on chips (SoCs) designed by Qualcomm and intended for mobile computing. System on chips released before the Snapdragon naming scheme are referred to only by their stock keeping unit (SKU) numbers. Some models were later given a Snapdragon product name.

The Snapdragon 870, for example, has become a popular choice for manufacturers like Xiaomi, realme, and Motorola. Likewise, the OnePlus 11R features a last-gen Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 to compete in a lower price class. In the mid-range market, meanwhile, Qualcomm’s latest offering is the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, followed by the Snapdragon 778G. As mentioned above, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoCs lead the Android smartphone market in terms of market share. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean the company produces the best chips on the market. If you’ve ever looked into smartphone spec sheets, you may have come across the name Qualcomm. As one of the largest semiconductor companies in the world, you’ll find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon SoCs in many mid-range and high-end Android smartphones, alongside scarce competition from MediaTek and Samsung. Qualcomm is an American company that primarily designs semiconductor and wireless communication technologies and products. The company’s Snapdragon SoC lineup, for example, powers the majority of Android smartphones on the market — as much as 65% in some segments, according to a recent Counterpoint report.

Posted by u/[Deleted Account] - 2 votes and 12 comments Qualcomm buys the right to use the ARM processor architecture and uses it within the design of the SnapDragon. Using the same analogy, this is like a car designer purchasing an engine design from another company. Qualcomm doesn't own the factories to build this chip, though. Qualcomm: Snapdragon coming to "all PC form factors," including desktops. ARM is the second most known compared to x86-64. the others are behind the curve for semiconductor research. they might specialize in one specific operation though. snapdragon is the best at core-to-cache speed. but overall that means very little. ... Ok but if Qualcomm makes Snapdragon then what does TSMC do because I heard that Qualcomm chips are also 'made by TSMC'
