The S805 MX Pro (and related variants like the MXQ S805) is a legacy Android TV box based on the Amlogic S805 chipset, which was a "budget king" around 2014–2016 Wirelesshack Gizmochina. In 2026, it is considered technically obsolete for mainstream consumer markets, though it maintains a minor presence in ultra-low-cost B2B distribution Alibaba.

1. Product Core Insights

* Hardware Capabilities: Features a Quad-Core Cortex-A5 CPU and Mali-450 GPU. It is limited to 1080p Full HD and does not support 4K playback Gizmochina.

* Legacy Status: Originally designed for Android 4.4 KitKat, which is now incompatible with most modern streaming apps (e.g., Netflix, YouTube 4K, latest Kodi builds) without significant unofficial modifications Alibaba.

* Performance: While stable for basic 1080p HEVC/H.265 streaming, it struggles with modern high-bitrate content and gaming Wirelesshack Gizmochina.

2. Market Trends & Analysis

* Transition to 4K/8K: The market has moved decisively toward 4K and 8K-capable chipsets like the Amlogic S905X4 and S928X. Consumer search volume for S805-based devices is near zero, replaced by demand for "4K Android 13" and "AI-SR" (Super Resolution) media players Alibaba Alibaba.

* B2B Residual Value: S805 units are still found on wholesale platforms like Alibaba for as low as $7–$9.50 USD (MOQ 20+), targeted at emerging markets or basic digital signage where 1080p is sufficient Alibaba.

* Consumer Shift: Modern buyers prioritize AV1 decoding, Android 11–14, Wi-Fi 6, and Google Voice Assistant, none of which are natively supported by the original S805 architecture Alibaba Alibaba.

3. Competitive Landscape

Compared to current market standards, the S805 MX Pro is outperformed in every metric:

* Entry-Level: X96 Mini (S905W) or similar clones offer 4K support at a similar $12–$15 price point Alibaba.

* High-End: The industry is moving toward 4GB/64GB configurations with S905X5M chips that include AI-driven image enhancement Alibaba.

Summary Verdict: The S805 MX Pro is a historical footnote in the TV box market. For any new sourcing or development project in 2026, it is strongly recommended to pivot to Amlogic S905X4 or newer chipsets to ensure app compatibility and 4K capability.
