When Will RAM Prices Drop? Global Memory Market Outlook 2024–2026
www.bacloud.com
RAM prices across the board – from desktop and laptop memory to mobile and server DRAM – have surged dramatically through late 2024 and 2025. An unprecedented combination of factors, led by booming AI server demand and supply constraints, has driven memory costs to multi-year highs. This report examines current RAM pricing trends and what’s driving them, surveys forecasts from industry analysts for the next 6–12 months, evaluates whether the market is in a speculative “price bubble,” reviews memory manufacturers’ production plans, and considers broader semiconductor and economic trends. As of the end of 2025, we’re not there yet – in fact, we’re seeing the opposite (lead times for AI chips extending well into 2024–25, big pre-orders for memory, etc.). The broader trends currently remain supportive of high memory pricing in the near future. Global RAM prices are experiencing an extraordinary surge, driven by a confluence of strong AI/server demand, constrained supply (both deliberate and inadvertent), and a dash of speculative fervor. As a result, prices for desktop, laptop, mobile, and server memory have more than doubled in many cases between 2024 and 2025, squeezing consumers and device makers alike. Indeed, that was the basis for the late-2024 predictions of price declines in 2025. The twist is that enterprise and AI demand took over as the dominant driver, dwarfing the consumer softness. In the future, if the economy weakens or consumer spending drops (e.g., due to recessionary forces or saturation of pandemic-era devices), there could be a drag on memory demand that helps cool prices. For instance, if people buy fewer new laptops or phones in 2026, that could free up some DRAM that would have been used in those devices. Team Group, a memory module maker, noted in Oct 2025 that “the [memory] supply-demand imbalance is expected to persist through at least the first half of next year” (i.e., mid-2026). Similarly, TrendForce, a market research firm specializing in memory, projects that shortages of legacy DDR4 will extend into H1 2026.
IDC - Global Memory Shortage Crisis: Market Analysis and the ...
www.idc.com
Under a more pessimistic scenario, the decline could deepen to 8.9%. The severity of each scenario will largely depend on how long the current supply constraints persist through 2026. Under these downside scenarios, PC average selling prices would likely rise, increasing by 4% to 6% in a moderate scenario, and by 6% to 8% in a pessimistic scenario. As with smartphones, channels are building inventory in advance to mitigate the impact of further price increases in the months ahead, which is expected to support stronger-than-expected forecast performance in Q4 2025, relative to the November outlook. In the high end of the market, Apple and Samsung face pressure but are structurally hedged. Its cash reserves and long-term supply agreements allow it to secure memory supply 12-24 months in advance. On the other hand, new flagship models in 2026 will likely have no RAM upgrades, sticking to 12GB for Pro models rather than increasing to 16GB. The cumulative effect of these pressures is a potential contraction in the global smartphone market alongside an increase in average selling prices (ASP). In 2026, in our moderate downside scenario, we could see the market contract by 2.9%. In our pessimistic downside scenario, it could be as bad as 5.2%. The severity of each scenario depends on how long this situation lasts. For consumers and enterprises alike, this signals the end of an era of cheap, abundant memory and storage, at least in the medium term. The year 2026 is shaping up to be one in which technology becomes more expensive, driven by supply constraints rather than demand growth.
Samsung warns of memory shortages driving industry-wide price surge ...
www.networkworld.com
SK Hynix reported during its October earnings call that its HBM, DRAM, and NAND capacity is “essentially sold out” for 2026, while Micron recently exited the consumer memory market entirely to focus on enterprise and AI customers. The supply constraints have translated directly into sharp price increases across enterprise hardware. Samsung raised prices for 32GB DDR5 modules to $239 from $149 in September, a 60% increase, while contract pricing for DDR5 has surged more than 100%, reaching $19.50 per unit compared to around $7 earlier in 2025. DRAM prices have already risen approximately 50% year to date and are expected to climb another 30% in Q4 2025, followed by an additional 20% in early 2026, according to Counterpoint Research. The firm projected that DDR5 64GB RDIMM modules, widely used in enterprise data centers, could cost twice as much by the end of 2026 as they did in early 2025. Samsung Electronics warned that memory chip shortages will drive price increases across the electronics industry in 2026, with the world’s largest memory manufacturer acknowledging that even its vast production capacity cannot insulate its own products from the surge, a signal that enterprise IT buyers face unavoidable cost increases regardless of vendor choice.
High RAM prices mean record-setting profits for Samsung and other ...

SK Hynix posted its “highest-ever quarterly performance” in Q3 of 2025 with 11.38 trillion Korean won (about $7.8 billion) in operating profit, up from 7.03 trillion in Q3 of 2024, and an operating margin that increased from 40 percent to 47 percent. SK Hynix credits “expanding investments in AI infrastructure” and “surging demand for AI servers” for its performance. Micron—which recently decided to exit the consumer RAM and storage markets but is still selling its products to other businesses—also reported a big boost to net income year over year, from $1.87 billion in Q1 2025 to $5.24 billion in Q1 2026. As things currently stand, the AI industry’s gargantuan demand for these chips will keep memory prices elevated, possibly for years. According to Bank of America analysts cited by SK Hynix, the average selling price for DRAM will increase by as much as 33 percent in 2026, and the market for just HBM in 2028 could be larger than the entire RAM market was in 2024. In revenue guidance released this week, Samsung Electronics predicts it will make between 19.9 and 20.1 trillion Korean won in operating profit (roughly $13.8 billion USD) in Q4 2025, compared to just 6.49 trillion won in Q4 of 2024. The first is just that consumers and PC manufacturers get to compete with OpenAI and its ilk for the standard DRAM used for traditional servers and consumer devices. By some estimates, OpenAI’s “Stargate” could use as much as 40 percent of the world’s DRAM output all by itself (though that figure uses production numbers as of 2024 and 2025 and doesn’t take production increases into account).
