This installment focuses on displays, though whether I will write a sequel remains undecided. ... The world's first smartphone to feature an "edge display" was the Galaxy Note Edge, announced by Samsung in 2014. In 2016, the company introduced the world's first "dual-edge display" in the Galaxy S6 Edge, where both the left and right sides of the screen were curved. Since then, compared to standard flat displays, edge displays became popular in high-end devices from manufacturers other than Samsung as an advanced design that could increase the screen-to-body ratio. The total elimination of edge displays in the S24 series did not happen suddenly or without context; starting with the Galaxy S21 series, edge displays were limited to the top-tier Ultra model, and even within the Ultra line, the angle and surface area of the curved edges had been decreasing through the S23 series. Furthermore, the adoption of edge displays in smartphones other than Samsung's is also on a downward trend, and at this point, it is almost exclusively Chinese manufacturers that continue to use them.
