The first of these, Skysat-3, also referred to as SkySat-C1, was launched on 22 June 2016 by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C34. Terra bella is Italian for "beautiful Earth". The name change was also partially due to perceived trademark infringement that came to light in the Google acquisition. The central detector is slightly offset from the side detectors, giving in SkySat imagery it's unique "tuning fork" outline. SkySat can collect frame imagery, stereo imagery, and video. SkySat images are typically collected in short exposures, coregistered, and stacked to improve the SNR and GSD with super-resolution. SkySat collects RGB, NIR and panchromatic imagery. SkySat imagery products are available for search, ordering, and download via Planet's APIs, User Interfaces, and Integrations. Larger strips are available as coregistered, stacked, mosaiced scenes with the SkySatCollect item. Videos are delivered with the SkySatVideo item. For SkySatScene and SkySatCollect, different levels of image processing for the final product can be specified via the Asset type. More information on Planet Item and Asset types is available here. A SkySat Scene Product is an individual framed scene within a strip, captured by the satellite in its line-scan of the Earth. SkySat Satellites have three cameras per satellite, which capture three overlapping strips. A SkySat Collect Product is created by composing many SkySat Scenes along an imaging strip into an orthorectified segment. Collects are often composed of 60 or more scenes and will be at least 5 km long. They are represented in the Planet Platform as the SkySatCollect item type.

Since our acquisition of Terra Bella, and the SkySat constellation of seven satellites, we’ve been focused on making this high-resolution data accessible and available via our cloud-based data infrastructure. After four months of heavy lifting from our spacecraft, data pipeline and product teams, we’re pleased to announce that sub one-meter, high-resolution imagery is now accessible and available through the Planet API. The native resolution at nadir of the SkySat-1 and SkySat-2 is around 1.1 m. Further satellites will be placed in lower orbits, leading to increased image resolution. The Raw Video and Frame products contains both a physical camera model and a RPC (Remote Procedure Call) for each individual frame. A raw video product with individual TIFF files with 11 bit of radiometric resolution and per frame orbit and attitude parameters and RPCs is also available. The raw video frames are available at the full panchromatic detector area size of 2560 x 1080 pixels. SkySat is a constellation of 21 high-resolution Earth imaging satellites owned and operated by the commercial company Planet Labs. ESA is offering, for scientific research and application development, access to archive and new tasking data from the SkySat mission upon submission and acceptance of a project proposal. ESA will support as many high-quality and innovative projects as possible within the quota limit available, therefore only a limited amount of products can be made available to each project.
