I have a 3500ma 7.2v NiMh that gives me almost 30minutes of run time. Regarding genuine Tamiya Nicads, I have two 1200mah 7.2v hump packs from the early 1980s that I’ve owned from new which still take a charge and work nicely. For a more "modern" battery you would use Lipo (7.4V and able to deliver a lot more amps) Unless you're in Japan, which went to LiFe (only 6.6V but decent amps) because LiPo was more of a fire risk in the early days (it's better now but you should still be careful with it) No-matter what you get, it'll perform better than your NiCd did even back when it was new ...
