Tecsun S-8800 is a PLL DSP multiband receiver that can be fully operated with the use of a remote control. It receives FM, Longwave (LW), Medium Wave (MW) and Shortwave (SW) frequency bands and is Single Sideband (SSB) capable. This radio receiver is equipped with an analog High-IF circuit and DSP triple conversion decoding technology. I recently purchased the Tecsun S-8800 and it is everything that they claim it to be and more. It's a very impressive radio especially considering its reasonable cost. It has all the features that one could possible want or need in a radio of a comparable price range, they left nothing out on this radio. New arrived today , production date march 2021 , one nice radio with great sound coming from the speaker, very sensitive on the SW bands just using the telescopic whip i actually thought there was going to be some overload using a external OCFD antenna , i was very surprised after fitting the bnc connector that there was no overload noticed at all! The S-8800 can hear anything and mostly better than the old FRG-100 and other dedicated amateur radio/SW radios i have/use , AM demodulation on the broadcast band on weak signals is very very good , well done Tecsun i'm very happy . The remote control provides the possibility to directly key in a frequency, access the memory, use its full-range of features and simply enhances the overall ease-of-use! The remote control allows the radio to be positioned and orientated (with its Ferrite and Telescopic antennas) so that provides optimum reception. More, all the S-8800's features can be conveniently controlled including: power On/Off, display frequency/time, memory store/recall, tuning, bands, scanning, mode AM/FM-mono/FM-stereo/LSB/USB, bandwidth, and a keypad to allow direct entry of frequencies (see figure bellow). Tecsun have taken advantage of the recent developments in Li-Ion batteries with the radio utilising 2 x 18650 cells to provide a huge increase in the listening time on each charge. The Tecsun S-8800 is supplied with Remote IR Control, USB Charger, 2 x 18650 Batteries, 2 x AAA Batteries. The S-8800 can be connected to an external antenna to provide increase performance on all bands, with high-impedance (High-Z) LW / MW / SW antenna socket and low-impedance (Low-Z) SW / FM antenna socket. 650 stations can be stored in memory, there are also the "Auto sorting" feature for removing duplicate frequencies. The radio offers frequency browsing, as well as ATS (Auto Tuning Storage) and semi-automatic storage with the receiver stops when it finds a signal and you have some seconds to store it. We have collected for your convenience the Tecsun S8800 sale price (US Dollar) and its trend over time. Looking at anon-co.com there are dozens of models at every price point, feature set and performance level, several of which I happen to own so I have first-hand experience with many of them. To be sure several models have specific qualities that may be of special importance to some users, but the above models are the ones that seem to offer a good balance of performance and value. I used the S-8800 in a number of physical locations, from public parks where I hoped to avoid high noise levels, to my back yard where noise levels are, unfortunately, quite high. I have compared the S-8800 to a number of portables in my collection, including: SONY ICF-2010, SW-77, SW-55, along with Tecsun’s 660 and 880, Grundig SAT-500. Hands down, the S-8800 wins the audio competition when compared to pretty much every other radio. As everyone knows by now, Tecsun did not merely adopt the cabinet of the old Eton S350 but basically stuffed a hot rod racer into the cabinet of what was previously a mediocre radio at best. Widely used in a number of radios these days, the S-8800 uses a DSP chip that is seen in a number of other receivers. Tecsun hit it out the ballpark with the remote supplied with the S-8800. It looks like something you would find with high end stereo equipment and clearly much thought went into making sure it can control every aspect of the receiver, from SW band slewing to selectivity, volume, readout — everything except BASS and TREBLE control, Timer/Alarm, and master volume (i.e. as other reviewers note, you have to set the on-radio master volume to a high enough level first, then use the remote to vary). But if both 18650’s in the Tecsun are drained, the radio definitely needs to re-charge to a minimum level required for operation. As I write this, I plugged the S-8800 into a wall outlet (a blue LED indicator on front indicates charging mode) and I was unable to use the radio as the battery level had completely zeroed out.
