The TLRH180P is a specialized, ultra-bright red LED manufactured by Toshiba Semiconductor Alldatasheet Scribd. It is widely recognized in the electronics and arcade industries as a critical component for optical switch systems, particularly within Sega and Stern Pinball machines Pinballshop Scribd.

Product Specifications & Features

The TLRH180P is a high-performance visible light LED with several distinct characteristics:

* Wavelength & Color: Emits an ultra-bright red light (typically around 660nm) Uni-Kiel Scribd.

* Package Type: Standard T-1 3/4 (5mm) round through-hole package with a clear lens Pinballshop Flippers.

* Dual Functionality: Unique for its ability to function as both a transmitter and a receiver in optical sensor pairs, a design choice often utilized in ball trough detection systems Pinballshop Scribd.

* Lifecycle Status: It is an obsolete/legacy part Scribd. Original production by Toshiba has ceased, making it increasingly rare Avaq Scribd.

Market Trends & Insights

The market for the TLRH180P is currently driven by the niche demand for arcade and industrial maintenance:

* Scarcity Premium: Due to its obsolescence, genuine New Old Stock (NOS) units have seen significant price inflation, often retailing for $2.50–$5.00 per unit compared to the original price of a few cents Scribd.

* Shift to Modern Alternatives: Maintenance professionals are transitioning to modern equivalents like the MT5000UR or high-output infrared (IR) sensor pairs Scribd Pinballshop. These modern parts are significantly cheaper ($0.15–$0.40 per unit) but often require replacing both the transmitter and receiver simultaneously to ensure compatibility Scribd.

* Consolidation in Sourcing: There is a growing trend toward purchasing complete aftermarket replacement boards rather than discrete LEDs, as these assemblies utilize modern surface-mount components that offer higher reliability and lower long-term costs Scribd Scribd.

Primary Applications

* Pinball Systems: Used in Sega/Stern White Star systems for ball trough optos, stacking sensors, and vertical up-kickers (VUK) Scribd.

* Industrial Sensing: Historically used in panel circuit indicators and narrow-acceptance photodiodes for high-speed circuit signaling Datasheet Jotrin.

* Scientific Research: Employed in specialized measuring devices (like physiostats) where a precise 630-660nm light source is required Uni-Kiel.
